Dear Praying Friends:
Not much has changed since our last update, but we wanted to keep you abreast of how our plans are progressing. We are ever thankful for your faithful prayers for us.
China Evangelical Seminary Entrance Exam
Right now Jason is sitting across from me (Kristie) hurriedly memorizing the Chinese names of prophets and the books of the Bible, preparing for the CES entrance exam he will take tomorrow morning (Mon., June 16). The test is, in a word, daunting. He asked a friend for advice on how to prepare for the test and was told he needed to know the entire Bible in detail. We looked at a few sample questions offered by the seminary and they weren’t kidding, the test covers the whole Bible. In detail.
That being said, it is impossible for us to attempt to get a feel for our “chances”. The test will certainly be difficult, but at the same time only 90 people are competing for 80 spots. We can only trust that if God wants Jason to study at CES next year he will be accepted, all tests and numbers aside.
Zhong Yuan University
We contacted Zhong Yuan University and were told that they have not yet published the list of admitted students. Hopefully we will hear from them soon. Zhong Yuan is our second choice, but it would be comforting to have that option in place.
Plan B
At the same time we are trying to develop a contingency plan, in the event that Jason doesn’t get accepted into either school. The main problem is figuring out how to get our visas without having to take Chinese classes or teach English full time. We have opened conversations with a few churches in Taiwan about getting visas through a work partnership.
Prayer Requests
1. CES Exam: Jason’s written exam starts Monday morning at 8am (that is Sunday at 8pm EDST) and ends at 2pm. There are three sections: a Bible test, a Chinese test, and an English test. I think the most important thing to pray for is that Jason will feel relaxed and confident on the day of the test. Also that he will be able to read and understand the questions without too much difficulty. If he passes the written exam there is an oral exam a week later (June we do not know the exact date yet.
2. Youth Group Testimony: Just after the oral tests, Jason is scheduled to give his testimony to our church’s youth group. Please pray for fluency and that Jason would be a blessing to these kids.
3. Children’s Gospel Camp: Jason and I are teaching English praise songs at a children’s camp July 1-5. Some of the children there will be hearing the gospel for the first time, pray that those seeds would fall on good soil.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
Be strong and of good courage!
