A Real Conversation

We were given a big book of children’s stories by one of the seminary moms whose children have outgrown children’s stories. (oh, my mommy heart, *sniff*) Ellie loves the entire book, but one of her favorites is “Freight Train” by by Donald Crews. Very soon after we received this gift I overheard this conversation while I washed up from dinner.

Jason: Going…going…gone. (the very last sentence of “Freight Train”)

Ellie: Again!

Jason: But we just read this story three times.

Ellie: Again!

Jason: Don’t you want to read something else? (starts flipping for another story)

Ellie: NO! Freight Train!

Jason: But I want to read something else.

Ellie: Freight Train!

Jason: O-kay, we’ll read “Freight Train” one more time, but then we’re reading something different.

Ellie: (in affirmation) Freight Train.
