Ellie is starting to catch on the all the baby talk. I think I’ll take her to my next OB check-up so she can see the baby on the ultrasound. That, and to prove to the nurses that I actually do have a husband.
We have this conversation often now, the only difference is that when we talk about the baby we use his name.
Ellie: Mommy have “Baby” in belly. Growing.
Kristie: That’s right, “Baby” is inside Mommy’s belly. He’s growing. And when he’s finished growing in Mommy’s belly, Mommy will go to the hospital so “Baby” can be born. And then he’ll come and live with us here. Then we’ll have a new baby too!
Ellie: (looks a little concerned) Mommy, Daddy, Ellie live here.
Kristie: You’re right Ellie. Mommy and Daddy and Ellie live here. But after “Baby” is born Mommy, Daddy, Ellie and “Baby” will live here.
Ellie: (makes her tummy round and pats it) Ellie have baby in belly too!
Kristie: Oh really?
Ellie: (points to the left side of her tummy) Feet here…(points to the right side)…head here.
Kristie: I see. Now let’s wash Ellie’s belly.
I love how you can have such complete conversations with her! Kathryn has decided the past couple of days that she (and everybody else) has a baby in her tummy. She’ll get a very concerned look on her face, say “baby” while putting her hand on her belly, then want your hand there to feel it move…
