Ellie is now tall enough to swing her foot over the rail of her crib.
This terrifies me. Not because I’m worried she might fall. No. But because the thought of Ellie sleeping in a regular bed makes me want to hyperventilate.
She hasn’t yet climbed out of her crib, but with a little effort and
determination she could sure do it. And when that day comes we’ll have
to take the side off her bed. And then she’ll have freedom.
Y’all, Ellie is the Chief Sleep Resister. She didn’t sleep through the night until she was 15 months old. And every time we have a cold or teething or some other disruption we have to sleep train. Again. Sometimes it seems like we are constantly in sleep training.
Jason reminds me that if we had a thicker mattress, instead of the thin one I complain about, she’d probably already be able to climb out. Indeed. Be thankful in all things.
The last thing Ellie needs at bedtime is more freedom. The. last. thing.
I could compare notes as I happen to have some experience with a Chief Sleep Resister. Persistence, perhaps? The pictures of Ellie are adorable.
VERY cute
Oh wow! I found Kathryn the other day with one leg on either side of her crib after her naptime, and she was rocking back and forth over the rail (i.e. could have fallen out with the slightest more lean to the left). I keep reiterating to her how she is going to FALL and it will HURT (notice the emphasis). I, too, dread the day the big girl bed comes, although doubt I have as much reason to dread it as you do. Here’s to hoping our little girls stay put in the crib a bit longer…
