Later this week, after a wonderfully funny Real Conversation tomorrow, I am hoping to put up some posts about our recent trip to Hualian.
Jason and I have wanted to go visit Hualian ever since we moved to Taiwan. Everyone says it is one of the most beautiful places in Taiwan, and it is.
I never realized how beautiful America truly is until I came to live in a developing nation that gives environmental concerns a backseat to economic progress (much like the west did during the Industrial Revolustion). We really miss beautiful places. We really miss nature. We really miss clean air.
So, we were thrilled when some of our friends, who just so happen to be from Hualian, invited us to come visit them for three days over winter break. We got to see the incredible Pacific Ocean (I had never seen it before!), the steep and rugged mountains of Taiwan’s East coast and clean rivers and countryside.
This is a picture of me and Jason on our first day. After taking this picture I asked Jason how it looked. His response: “We look like we need a vacation.”
He was right. Here we are again on our last day in Hualian. I think the difference is clear.
Even though it was tiring. Even though it took me a week to recover. Even though Ellie hardly slept for three days and fell apart once we got home. Even though we had potato chips for lunch one day. It was worth it. So worth it. Probably the best trip we’ve taken in Taiwan. All three of us loved our time in Hualian.
