A Real Conversation

One night En Zhen, my Korean neighbor and friend popped in while I was
making dinner: grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches. She was curious,
so I gave her one that her and her husband could try. This is the
conversation I had with her the next day.
En Zhen: We both really loved those sandwiches!
Kristie: Oh good! I [...]

She is his STAR.

She is, without a doubt, his favorite person in our family. She thinks he’s curious and interesting, but also likes it when he goes to sleep in his bed.
Captivation. Okay, so he doesn’t really look so happy here, but when I first put him down (hoping to catch some shots of the two [...]

I will sing to the LORD,Because He has dealt bountifully with me.Psalm 13:6

A Real Conversation

I’m getting Ellie dressed for the day.
Kristie: Ellie, do you want to wear your tutu? (Ellie’s wearing her “Big Girl”* shirt and I think the tutu looks cute with it.)
Ellie: Tooo-toooooo?
Kristie: Yeah! This one…(gets the tutu out of Ellie’s closet)..Here, can you put this on by yourself?
(Ellie puts on the tutu.)
Kristie: You did it! Go [...]

Yes, I do compare my children.

At least for now, and I thought these were some pretty interesting facts.
Both Ellie and Abram were born at the exact same gestation age: 39 weeks and 2 days.

They were both, to the centimeter, the exact same length: 52 cm (or 20.5 inches).

Their weights differed by only 40 grams, or just over 1 oz. (Ellie [...]

Elephant Ears

One night at dinner (before Abram was born and mealtimes became even trickier) I look up from my plate and see this….

Ellie with her fork in her mouth, in the middle of stuffing spinach-mashed potatoes in her ear.

Either Jason or I say, “Ellie no! Mashed potatoes don’t go in our ear!”

Noticing that she has [...]

Ellie is bigger and BIGGER!

When I started writing this post in my head, about a month before Ellie turned two, I was going to title it: “Ellie is little girl!”
Back when we were teaching Ellie “little” and “big” we taught her that Mommy was a “big” girl, Daddy was a “big” boy, and Ellie was a “little” girl. [...]

A Real Conversation

We’re playing with Ellie’s shape puzzle.
Ellie: (holds up a half-moon) What that?
Kristie: That is a half-moon.
Ellie: (still holding half-moon) What that?
Kristie: That is a half-moon.
Ellie: (still holding the half-moon) What that?
Kristie: I don’t know, what is that?
Ellie: (giggles) Half-moon…(in her “patient explaining voice)…That is half-moon, Mommy.

A Look at Abram

We’re already doing it. Taking far fewer pictures of Abram than we did of Ellie. I think we have about 100 pictures of Ellie just from her three days in the hospital. Abram got about 5. Sorry little guy, it’s not that we care about you less, it’s just real life.
We started trying to [...]
