I’ll admit it. I completely dropped the ball as far as fun Easter activities for kids go. It makes me slightly sad, because I love coloring Easter eggs…but Jason had a Greek midterm two days after Easter and I flat out didn’t have it in me to motivate a big (or little) Easter undertaking.
We did all go to the big park for some running around in the grass and sun after church. But we didn’t take any pictures. I don’t know why. Nothing picture-worthy happened I suppose.
Luckily for Ellie, there were a couple of fun Easter activities for kids in the days leading up to Easter that we participated in. Hooray!
Last week our playgroup held an Easter party. It was full on toddler crazy fun, including coloring eggs(!), a craft(!), and an Easter egg hunt(!!!). The party was hosted at my friend Jen’s house (possibly the bravest women I know…there were about 15 toddlers and DYE at this party), and she posted pictures on her blog. Head on over, because she has a great picture of me and Ellie and Abram dying Easter eggs.
Ellie talked about the party for days afterwards. Each day she would ask to go to another Easter party, and oh the thrill when she got to peel and eat her spoils of the egg hunt for snack.
Then, our church held an Easter event for kids on the Saturday before Easter. We thought this was going to be another Easter egg hunt, but it turned out to be more like a mini-carnival. Ellie wasn’t too disappointed though, because…
There was fishing!!!
They set up big tubs of water full of little goldfish. Little kids got to use a net, big kids had a paper thingy that made it challenging. They gave the kids a few minutes to fish and I think the rules were “You catch it, you keep it”. Ellie’s fish got donated back.
Here’s Ellie getting her supplies….
…and excitedly telling me, “You got some fish!!”
To understand why this was so fun for Ellie you have to know that Ellie loves to pretend that our bed is The Ocean. We go to The Ocean and she catches fish, sea stars, sharks, baby sharks and the occasional octopus. We do this several times a day, and each time Ellie “catches” something she will hand it to me or Jason and proclaim, “You got a fish!”
Now back to the Easter carnival…They also had cotton candy!
This is how you end up with a sticky face.
This is how you end up with sticky hands.
The little carnival (which was completely free!!) was held in our favorite playground just beside our church, so Ellie was already an old hand at the slides.
All in all a fun week. But next year I am determined to color Easter eggs at home.
