A Real Conversation
Background: The way that Ellie says ‘girl’ sounds like ‘grill’. Apparently more than just “sounds like”.
Jason: Guess what we’re having for lunch Ellie! Grilled cheese sandwiches!
Ellie: (thinks a moment)….Is Daddy going to have a boy cheese sandwich?
Jason: (laughs) Okay, let’s talk about the word “grill”. “Grilled” means that the sandwich will be cooked. But [...]
Jet Lag
Yawn.
We’re working through the jet lag and getting back into the swing of things here. Ellie has culture shock. She doesn’t seem to remember things here, which is interesting.
I still want to post about some of the things we did back in the US, so the blog may experience some multiple seasonal personalities [...]
A Flower for Sunday
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks.1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Water By Another Name
Or something like that. I’m not really sure what I mean by that title. You’re probably not sure either.
I think the problem is that I’m trying to do too many things with this blog post. You see, I’m really, really, REALLY behind on my updating. So I wanted to start catching up with some cute [...]
A Real Conversation
Drumroll please………It’s Abram’s debut!
We were having lunch at Jason’s Gram’s house. She was holding Abram and sitting beside Ellie.
Gram: (directing Abram towards Ellie) Who is this Abram? Is this your sister?
Abram: A-oo (sounds like Ellie)
Gram: Can you say, “Hi”?
Abram: Hiiiiiii
Genuis baby? Or luck coos? You decide.
Today
Today is kind of a big deal.
Today is Jason’s birthday!! Wow! Happy Birthday Jason!
That’s a cake he shared with his Aunt Amy (and the kids) a few days ago. He gets pie again tonight.
Today we are packing up our bags and getting ready to return to Taiwan. We leave for the airport at 3am [...]
Marital Counseling ala E. B. White
I ran across this passage while reading The Trumpet of the Swan by E. B. White. A cute commentary on male-female relations that had a familiar ring.
The cob (male swan) was expecting to become a father any minute now. The idea of fatherhood made him feel poetical and proud. He began to talk [...]
A Real Conversation
(it’s back!)
The background: This summer Ellie started carrying around imaginary sea stars (aka starfish). She would walk around with her fists closed, carrying her sea star. Every now and then she would ask me or Jason to hold her sea star when she needed her hands to do things like coloring or holding the stair [...]
Cousin Sarah
Seeing Ellie play and form relationships with her cousins was one of the most delightful things about being home this summer.
This is Sarah. Technically speaking, she’s my first cousin, but she’s only one year older than Ellie and the two became fast friends. I don’t think she’ll mind trading me for Ellie.
