This is an update about talking. And my kids. My kids and their talking.
One is a Talker. This one.
Oh, she’s been a talker for over a year now. But it’s only recently that she has become a Talker. A constant stream of “What’s that?“s and “and then…“s and “this is…“s. She asks questions, she explains things, she describes things, she shares revelations, she does not stop talking. To me. Ever.
You see, this summer she had a fairly steady stream of cousins and playmates to communicate with. Now that we are back in Taiwan there are only two people that she sees daily who speak her language. Me and Jason. And Jason is in class all day.
And so I have two hopes. First, that she learns Chinese. Soon. Second, that she finds an imaginary friend.
I believe the imaginary friend may come before the Chinese. Lately Ellie has started to tell me about her “friends”. They have often long and complex names with a bit of a Japanese flair and speak an invented language. Today one friend seemed to stick around. His name is Knowngo. I hope he’s here to stay.
The other one is a Wannabe Talker. This one.
He wants to be able to do everything big. Jump and climb and talk, just like his big sister. I do believe he’s started saying and waving “Hi!”, waving “bye” and sometimes saying “mommommommom” when he wants a Mommy snuggle.
(p.s. both of these pictures are from our time in Vermont, which I hope to be posting a bit about soon. hopefully.)
Remember these days when your children have grown up and keep themselves “locked up” in their rooms and you wishing for time to share or even a small conversation out of them.
At least yours talks about a variety of subjects… mine seems to center his conversations around going to Leo foo cun!!! And learning Chinese doesn’t necessarily change things for the listener – it’s just more deciphering! but i love hearing about Ellie’s conversations!!! Keep ‘em comin’!!!
This is a gorgeous picture of Ellie!
